Winter Skate Rink Comes to Whitehill & Bordon
With Christmas just around the corner, the Whitehill & Bordon Community Trust has announced that it will be bringing a winter skate rink to Prince Philip Park, with it open to the public from 02 to 24 December 2017.
The rink, which will be housed in the Garrison Pool car park on Budds Lane, will be open for public sessions from 3.30pm to 9.30pm every weekday and 10am to 9pm Saturday and Sunday. Each session will last for 45 minutes, starting on the half hour during the week and on the hour at weekends. Limited tickets will be available on the door, subject to availability, but should be booked in advance via www.princephilippark.co.uk/skating. Tickets cost from £6 for adults and £5 for children, including skate hire.
An opening night event will be held on 02 December from 5pm with a skating Santa and displays from local groups, whilst the last night of skating on Christmas Eve will feature a sing-a-long and skate with Christmas carols.
As well as the daily regular skating slots, there will be a number of special skate sessions throughout the month, such as optional dress-up Disney themed sessions, a relaxed session with low level lighting and softer music, and under-fives sessions so that toddlers can skate at a slower pace. The Rink is also fully accessible and there will be mobility aids available, including a specially adapted wheelchair. There will also be refreshments by Four Fillies, who will provide homemade cakes, snacks and hot drinks, for those watching on.
Special skating sessions will be as follows:
- Under 5s skate – 10am each Sunday (excluding the opening weekend)
- Disney skate – 11am each Saturday
- Relaxed skate – 5.30pm each Wednesday
- Teen Skate with Disco Darren – 7.30pm each Monday
During week-days when the rink is not open to the public, it will be made available to local school and community groups. It can also be booked for exclusive hire by private groups for up to 25 people. Contact the Whitehill & Bordon Community Trust for more information.
Hannah Ashwell, Whitehill & Bordon’s Community Trust manager, says:
“The Whitehill & Bordon Christmas Skating Rink will provide somewhere for friends and families to come together to enjoy some of the festive spirit. There is something special about wrapping up warm and skating and is something that everyone enjoys, whether novice skaters or experts. We look forward to seeing the community down there throughout December and have some really exciting events planned to open and close the rink.”
Community Trust chairman, EHDC Cllr Julie Butler, adds:
“This is the first event the newly-formed Community Trust will offer, and what a fantastic, Christmassy event it will be.
“The Community Trust will bring all kinds of benefits to the town, from sporting events to cultural activities, and from supporting young entrepreneurs to managing community-owned land and buildings.
“With the support of the Whitehill and Bordon Regeneration Company, East Hampshire District Council and their partners we will put on exciting and inspirational events for everyone in the town, with young people and families as our main focus.
“The skate rink is a fabulous start for the Community Trust and a great example of what is to come. Get your skates on and make sure you get your tickets before they are snapped up!”
