Team GB Olympian to open new skate park in Bordon
Team GB Olympian, World and European BMX champion Liam Philips will officially open a new skate park in Bordon, Hampshire later this month.
An opening ceremony will take place on Saturday 29 July between 12noon and 14:00, where Liam Phillips and the town’s mayor, Councillor Colin Leach, will formally declare the facility open.
Attendees at the ceremony will enjoy demonstrations by professional skateboarders, music and food. There is also the opportunity for skateboarders, scooter and BMX riders to enter a competition and show off their jumps and tricks for prizes.
The unique skate park has been designed by leading skate park designer Wheelscape and provided by the Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company (WBRC). It replaces the existing skate park which has been demolished.
James Child, Project Lead, WBRC, says:
“We’d like to thank everyone who has made this project possible. The input received has been incredible and we are proud to be able to provide such a facility for the young people of Whitehill & Bordon to enjoy for many years to come”.
“Hopefully it will encourage more young people to stay active and who knows, maybe Bordon will produce a Team GB entrant in the new skateboarding category at the Olympics.”
The skate park has been designed to appeal to all wheeled sport users and can be enjoyed by experienced or novice users. It is complete with grind ledges, rails, steps, manual pads, jump box, pump bumps, lips and larger half pipes.
The skate park forms part of a new landscape planned for this area of Budds Lane in Bordon and will be co-located in a hub of activities to include a youth cafe. It is a key element of the enhanced provisions for young people in the town, which will be delivered as part of the Whitehill & Bordon regeneration project.
