New Whitehill and Bordon Leisure Centre set to open
Having been completed just before the second lockdown, the new Leisure Centre is due to open once restrictions are lifted, in line with the rules set out in the Government’s tier system.
The sports and leisure operator, Everyone Active, who will manage the centre in partnership with East Hampshire District Council, has announced that the grand opening of the new facility will take place with an ‘open week’.
Across the week, visitors will be able to get a ‘first look’ at the new £10 million sports centre and have the opportunity to try the new facilities and a variety of activities for free. All activities will be socially distanced and in line with the new safety measures, and those who wish to attend the open week will need to register their slot online in advance.
The state-of-the-art facility will feature a six lane 25m swimming pool, teaching pool, 80-station gym and two large fitness studios including a dedicated spin studio.
Chris West, Contract Manager at Everyone Active, commented:
“The brand new Whitehill & Bordon Leisure Centre will be a welcome addition to the town and the local community will benefit greatly from all the fantastic facilities we have to offer.
“The leisure centres in East Hampshire are pivotal in providing a wide range of facilities to the community and we’re passionate about helping more people to improve their health and wellbeing by getting active. We hope to see many new and returning members visit us on our official open week.”
The flagship centre will be replacing Mill Chase Leisure Centre, which has now closed its doors.
Cllr Richard Millard, Leader of East Hampshire District Council, said:
“This is the third major project of an incredible overhaul of East Hampshire sport and leisure provision. Following the renovated Taro Leisure Centre in Petersfield and the brand new sports centre in Alton the opening of the Whitehill & Bordon Leisure Centre marks the culmination of a huge amount of work and £30 million of investment by EHDC.
“This is also a key landmark in the regeneration of Whitehill & Bordon and big part of the new town centre. It is a phenomenal achievement to be able to bring this to the residents of Whitehill & Bordon during the coronavirus pandemic and I am looking forward to seeing it being used for the first time.”
Whitehill and Bordon Leisure Centre will offer a diverse mix of facilities, including:
- A six-lane 25m main pool
- A teaching pool
- An 80-station fitness suite
- A group spin studio including virtual classes
- A group exercise studio including virtual classes
