Hire an apprentice with the Future Skills Centre
Whitehill & Bordon’s Future Skills Centre (FSC) has launched a major drive to expand apprenticeships in the local area. First opened in 2017 with the aim of recruiting local teenagers into the construction industry, the FSC, managed by Steve Gilder, is determined to kick- start a new wave of bricklayers, carpenters and plumbers in the post-COVID age.
The FSC is hoping to partner with the likes of Hampshire County Council, East Hampshire District Council, the Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company, M3 Local Enterprise, Royal Holloway University, Places for People and Taylor Wimpey, all of whom Mr Gilder recently addressed, saying:
“We have had to face varying levels of challenge over the past 18 months, and due to the obvious reason – and a few others – the apprenticeship provision at the Future Skills Centre isn’t where I, or those that have been part of its development, want it to be.
“The centre currently has 48 full-time construction students and a healthy 14-16 cohort, thanks to our recent partnering with the Waverley Federation. A number of those full-time students would make excellent apprentices, they just need the opportunity.”
Optimism is high that a huge number of new apprenticeships will soon be available in W&B and the surrounding area, providing plentiful opportunities for the region’s young people to find happy and prosperous employment.
If you are a local business and employer, you’re urged to get in touch with FSC and be part of creating a better future for thousands of local young people.
