Planning permission submitted for new Health Hub

PLANNING APPLICATION SUBMITTED FOR THE NEW HEALTH HUB BUILDING IN BORDON TOWN CENTRE

Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company (WBRC) has submitted its planning application for the development of a town centre building on behalf of the landowner, the MoD, which will accommodate a new modern community Health Hub for the town, another significant milestone in the regeneration of the former Army Garrison site.

The Health Hub, which is being developed in partnership with the NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board and East Hampshire District Council, will accommodate the services provided by the Chase Community Hospital. It will include both physical and mental health services with community nursing teams as well as space to house the relocation of the Forest GP Surgery and Chase Pharmacy. Combining healthcare into a single hub will promote integrated working and joined-up care, as well as being more convenient and accessible for patients. The new Health Hub will sit alongside the existing Leisure Centre and The Shed, but will also seamlessly integrate with the proposed town centre developments, including the new Supermarket, The Mess Hall, retail units and the residential accommodation. If consent is granted it is anticipated that the new modern facility will be completed in early 2026, with services moving in progressively after that date. Service users and practice patients will be kept updated of progress and further health service engagement will be undertaken as the building process takes shape.

The Chase Community Hospital and the Forest GP surgery will remain open until all services are transferred. The planning submission marks the end of the complex and detailed design phase and the completion of a public consultation led by WBRC to support the application. More than 400 people attended events showcasing the plans for the new health hub. This feedback has helped to inform the application wherever possible and all partners will continue to engage with the local community as plans develop.

James Child, Project Lead at The Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company, commenting on the submission said: “This is a really important milestone for the town as the new Health Hub is an intrinsic part of the new town centre delivering modern healthcare to the whole community with the ability to grow with the town. It is a key element towards providing an inclusive town centre catering across the spectrum of services from health and wellbeing to food, recreation and entertainment.

Robert Smith, Head of Major Disposals at Defence Infrastructure Organisation said: “I am delighted that we have now reached this stage. Delivering a new Town Centre, that offers everything the partners and community aspired to achieve, has been a top priority since we started out. The Health Hub, delivering modern healthcare services in an integrated way, sits at the very heart of it. Hugely excited by this milestone, achieved through unwavering commitment and drive from all the partners involved.“

Sara Tiller, Hampshire Place Director at the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board, also said: “This is the culmination of many years of planning from all the partners involved and we are so pleased that we’ve had such strong engagement and feedback from across the community to bring us to this important point. We look forward to delivering this vital step forward for healthcare services in Whitehill & Bordon.”

Dr Anthony Leung from the Forest Surgery commented on the news: “This is great news for us in looking to deliver modern primary healthcare to a growing community in Whitehill and Bordon. We can look to double the number of consulting rooms we have and provide a more integrated service right in the heart of the town.”
