Ducking & Diving in Deadwater Valley
The Deadwater Valley Trust (DVT) Virtual Duck Race was back for another year in August. After a delay due to bad weather and high river levels, the race took place and the heroic efforts of the ducks were recorded, edited and set to music before being added to the Deadwater Valley Trust website. Fingers and webbed feet crossed that we can see supporters back on the river bank when this epic race returns in 2022.
The summer holidays were a fantastic time for the trust to reconnect and work with other local community groups after a long break. The trust worked with the wonderful Home-Start group to deliver sessions for its families, supported Café 1759 in its Good Grub Club initiative, as well as Bordon Library with its Summer Reading Challenge ‘Wild World Heroes’, encouraging children to take a book outside.
The trust also attended the Whitehill & Bordon Town Partnership Fun Day at the Forest Community Centre and hosted the South Downs National Park team that brought the ‘Secrets Of The Heath’ event to Hogmoor Inclosure. A big thank you to the Woolmer Lions Team who were heroic in their direction and management of the car park.
The Trust hosted a number of bat walks in September too, where people were guided through the nature reserve at sun set to search for protected bat species, of which participants were delighted to spot five.
The Millennium Seedbank has also been in Hogmoor this month, collecting and preserving seeds from plants found exclusively in the area.
There will also be plenty of activity in October, including apple tasting and Halloween fun, so stay tuned…
