Bordon Roller Rink hosts European hockey tournament – GB wins gold!
Bordon Roller Rink, in Whitehill & Bordon, hosted the U19 Roller Hockey European Championships in October 2022, an exhilarating competition from which Great Britain emerged with the gold medal.
It was the first time the UK has hosted the tournament in 18 years and Great Britain’s first ever gold upon defeating Germany in the final. Bronze medal went to Switzerland while Austria placed fourth. Team Switzerland were left particularly disappointed by failing to make the final for the first time in tournament history.
Great Britain’s victory came at the end of an extraordinary tournament of international competition and the final was attended by leading local figures such as Whitehill & Bordon Mayor Leeroy Scott and Cllrs Andy Tree and Catherine Clark from the town council..

Bordon Roller Rink – A local treasure
The UK was only able to host the tournament after an 18-year absence because of Bordon Roller Rink. There are only 9 or 10 roller rink venues in the UK and Bordon is the only one with the facilities and location to host such a competition.
The Roller Rink has been on its current site in the town since 2018 when David Edmondson took control of the venue and the Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration Company supported the significant refurbishment work required to transform it into a leading skating venue.
The rink will play host to a number of hockey tournaments over the coming months culminating in the truly thrilling 3-on-3 tournaments in August.
Anyone can come and spectate the tournaments where they can enjoy the spectacle of sport being played at an international level right on their doorstep.
Get stuck in to hockey and skating
If watching isn’t enough and you want to get involved with various forms of hockey and skating, pop down to the rink on Monday and Tuesday evenings where lots of local kids are already enjoying the high octane sport. For those kids who want to try hockey out, the rink can lend kit and equipment to avoid parents having to buy everything before being sure their little ones are actually going to stick with it.
If hockey isn’t for you but skating appeals, there is also a family Roller Disco every Saturday between 5pm-8pm. If any adults want to have their own roller disco, they can contact the rink and speak to David.
