Next phase of the Alton to Bordon Investment Project

SSE are continuing to invest £10.6million to boost Bordon’s electricity network; installing 18km of cabling that will serve the needs of the area’s 30,000 customers for many years to come.

The trenching works which began in May 2023 are almost complete. The team is now moving to the next phase to connect the ducts and pull the cable through. The cable pull is expected to be complete by Summer 2025.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we carry out these essential works.

Where is the team working?

The joint bay work and cable pull will begin later this month and is expected to complete by Summer 2025. The first set of works are expected to start on 23 January 2025.

To allow the team to safely install the joint bays and feed the cable through, most of the work will be carried out under temporary traffic lights, helping to reduce the need for full road closures wherever possible. However, two road closures are required to complete specific parts of the work safely. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted, and maps of the closures and diversions will be available on our website closer to the time.

Where is the team going next?

  • Farnham Road: 23 January to 3 February. These works will take place under temporary traffic lights.
  • Lindford Road near Playing Fields: 26 January to 9 February. These works will take place under temporary traffic lights.
  • Lindford Road near Lyndale Cottage: 26 January to 9 February. These works will take place under temporary traffic lights.
  • Liphook Road near Windsor Road: 5 February to 16 February. These works will take place under temporary traffic lights.
  • Headley Mill Farm: 7 February to 18 February. These works will take place under temporary traffic lights.
  • Oakhanger Road near Yew Tree Cottage: 2 March to 16 March. The road will be closed to through traffic whilst the team complete horizontal directional drilling work. We will endeavour to re-open the road as soon as possible.
  • Louisburg Avenue near Artillery Drive: 5 March to 16 March. These works will take place under temporary traffic lights.
  • Oakhanger Road near Old Station Way: 11 March to 22 March.  These works will take place under temporary traffic lights.
  • Oakhanger Road near Bins Cottage: 14 March to 25 March. These works will take place under temporary traffic lights.
  • Caker Lane near Worldham Golf Course: 17 March to 10 April. The road will be closed to through traffic during this time whilst the team complete horizontal directional drilling work.

An Advance Works Notice (AWN) is being posted via Royal Mail. A copy is attached. Details are also available on the project webpage.

The remainder of the programme (April to Summer 2025) will be shared once agreed with Hampshire Highways. We will advertise it on the website and issue a second AWN.

Maintaining local access.

People who live or work on a road we close can still drive in and out. Residents, delivery drivers, blue light services and the council’s waste collection service can all still use the road in both directions, via the diversion route, up to where the team is working.

Pedestrian access is always maintained. If you are concerned about accessing your property during this time, please contact us using the details below.

Worldham Substation

Updated plans have been finalised and submitted to the Planning Committee. Our engagement event on 22 January will also focus on our Worldham substation project so residents can learn more about our proposals.
