Public Art

Our public art strategy will create and reinforce local identity, unify and bring together old and new, establish historic referencing and allow better way-finding and orientation.

A number of new art installations will be designed for the area and we are actively inviting the local community to be involved. Work has already commenced in linking colour, public art and heritage strategies.

For example:

• Artist Shiraaz Ali has, along with the help of local residents, created a public art installation which is being displayed across 50 panels wrapping the Sandhurst Block. The artwork wrapping takes most of its inspiration from observing Hogmoor Inclosure and it’s beautiful nature and scenery. The façades represent the beauty within Hampshire and its native plant species and animals such as the deer, owl, goats and many more!

• Students have painted former tank bollards at the new Budds Lane skatepark in the REME military colours of red, navy and gold. Around 70 bollards will be utilised through the town.

• Sculptor David Lloyd has created a variety of sculptures in Hogmoor Inclosure around the themes of the historic

• military goods railway, Roman history and artefacts, royal hunting of wild boar and site-specific wildlife species found at Hogmoor. Read more here >

• 20 hand carved bespoke trail markers have been created for three separate walks – the Legion walk, the REME walk and the Gilbert White walk. These will reflect on images related to the Roman period, the First World War and the flora and fauna to be found on site, which would have been seen and noted by the local historical naturalist Gilbert White
